D- Day 80th Anniversary Commemoration

D- Day 80th Anniversary Commemoration

At 6pm on the 6th of June 2024, The Alice Cross Centre, along with Vanda Rudge and the Teignmouth Traders Association, hosted a 80th D Day commemoration evening. Dave the chef served up a delicious Sausage and Mash Sausage to around 40 attendees. The evening was accompanied by Wartime songs, sung by Peta ending with 2 songs by Vera Lynn – ‘There’ll be Bluebirds over the White Cliffs of Dover’ and ‘We’ll meet again’. Speeches were made by Centre Manager Jackie O’Brien and new Mayor of Teignmouth Cate Williams after which we all headed down to the War Memorial on the sea front. Cadets from the local Cadet groups paraded and there were readings from the local church leaders. A young cadet played the last Stand on the Trumpet before the torch beacons were lit and we all had a moment of reflection.
