An Afternoon of Courage, Hope and Inspiration

An Afternoon of Courage, Hope and Inspiration

On Friday we were delighted to welcome Dan and Babs Izzett to The Alice Cross Centre as part of our Empower Yourself lunchtime talk series. What an unforgettable afternoon it was.

Dan and Babs shared their remarkable story with honesty, warmth and humour. Their talk was inspiring, funny, deeply candid and, at times, incredibly moving. They spoke openly about Dan’s and Bab’s experience of living with leprosy, the challenges they have faced together, and how they have dedicated their lives to raising awareness through their work with The Leprosy Mission.

Many of us arrived knowing very little about leprosy, beyond the myths and misconceptions that still surround it. We left with a far greater understanding of the realities of the disease, the stigma that so many people continue to face, and the importance of compassion, education and hope. It was a privilege to hear their story first-hand.

Throughout the afternoon there was laughter, reflection and plenty of thoughtful discussion. Dan and Babs have an extraordinary ability to share difficult experiences with positivity, humility and good humour, leaving everyone feeling uplifted and inspired rather than saddened.

A huge thank you to Dan and Babs for giving up their time to visit us. Your openness, kindness and infectious optimism touched everyone in the room, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have shared such a special afternoon with you.

Thank you also to everyone who joined us for lunch and the talk and helped make the event such a success.

We really did have a wonderful, uplifting Friday, and we look forward to welcoming you all to the next event in our Empower Yourself series.
