Bereavement Support Group Coordinator

The Alice Cross Centre is looking for a compassionate volunteer to coordinate our friendly and welcoming Bereavement Support Group.

Bereavement can be one of life’s most difficult experiences, and having someone who listens without judgement can make all the difference. Our group provides a safe, supportive space where people can share their experiences, connect with others and begin to rebuild their confidence following the loss of a loved one.

We’re looking for someone who can gently guide these sessions while working alongside our wonderful team of experienced volunteers.

About the role

Our Bereavement Support Group, whose dedication has been recognised by the Mayor through prestigious community awards, meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at The Alice Cross Centre in Teignmouth.

The role typically involves around 2–3 hours per week, including:

  • Facilitating twice-monthly peer support group sessions
  • Working alongside 2–4 experienced volunteers
  • Providing one-to-one telephone support where needed
  • Meeting individuals for informal face-to-face support where appropriate
  • Helping ensure everyone who attends feels welcomed, heard and supported

We’re looking for someone who is…

  • Calm, patient and dependable
  • Warm, kind and naturally empathetic
  • A compassionate listener who can make people feel at ease
  • Comfortable supporting people through grief and loss
  • An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • Confident facilitating small groups
  • Able to maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality

You don’t need to be a counsellor

This is a peer support group rather than a counselling service. Full support will be provided by The Alice Cross Centre and you’ll be joining an experienced team of volunteers who care deeply about the people they support.

Why volunteer with us?

By giving just a few hours each week, you’ll be helping people navigate one of the most challenging times in their lives.

You’ll become part of a friendly, supportive team and make a genuine difference to your local community.

Interested?

We’d love to hear from you.

Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Yvonne, to arrange an informal chat and find out more about this rewarding volunteer opportunity.
