Our Brew and Chat Men’s group has had a couple of great guest speakers in the last couple of weeks. On Friday the 20th March Chris Inch joined us to give a presentation about the history of Teignmouth Pier. Dating back to 1867 it’s had a long and sometimes tumultuous life. Chris told about the pier’s eminent lead engineer, and the challenges our landmark pier has long faced. Our thanks to Chris for his illuminating talk about the pier, we also had a Q&A session at the end. Hopefully a way will be found to secure the piers future for the enjoyment of everyone.
The following week Ian Nightingale, chair of the Torbay Prostate Support Association (https://tpsa.org.uk) joined us to give a detailed presentation about prostate cancer and local support. Amongst other things we leaned that Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK. That More than 64,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, and that 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. However, we also heard that there have been strong advances in the treatment and support available in recent years. PSA Blood tests are available through the TPSA and elsewhere, and these are allowing more people to be diagnosed earlier, leading to better outcomes. Our thanks to Ian for sharing his knowledge on the subject.

The next PSA testing event by the TPSA is April 14th, booking details are on the poster here. You can also download a very good leaflet explaining common prostate problems BY CLICKING HERE.
