This week marks Volunteers’ Week, the annual UK-wide campaign that runs from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the outstanding contributions of volunteers across the country. At The Alice Cross, we’re taking this opportunity to shine a spotlight on our remarkable team of 90 volunteers who make such a profound difference to our organisation and the communities we serve.

The Heart of Our Mission
Our volunteers truly are the beating heart of The Alice Cross. Week after week, month after month, these dedicated individuals give their time, energy, and expertise to support our vital work. From frontline services to behind-the-scenes administration, from fundraising events to community outreach, our volunteers are involved in every aspect of what we do.
What makes their contribution even more extraordinary is the sheer scale of their impact. The hours generously donated by our volunteer team save The Alice Cross in excess of £115,000 each year – a figure that represents not just significant financial value, but countless hours of compassionate care, skilled support, and unwavering commitment to our cause.
More Than Numbers
While the financial equivalent of their contributions is impressive, the true value of our volunteers extends far beyond any monetary figure. They bring:
Expertise and Skills: Many of our volunteers share professional skills and life experiences that enhance our services and operations in ways we could never afford to purchase.

Personal Connection: Our volunteers create meaningful relationships with the people we support, offering not just practical help but genuine human connection and understanding.

Community Spirit: They serve as ambassadors for The Alice Cross in their communities, spreading awareness of our work and building bridges between our organisation and local residents.

Innovation and Fresh Perspectives: Our volunteers often bring new ideas and different approaches that help us improve and adapt our services to better meet community needs.

A Diverse Team United by Purpose
Our 90 volunteers come from all walks of life – students and retirees and professionals, long-time supporters and newcomers to volunteering. What unites them all is a shared commitment to making a positive difference and supporting The Alice Cross’s mission.

Some have been with us for years, becoming integral parts of our extended family. Others have joined more recently, bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm. Together, they create a volunteer community that is both diverse and cohesive, experienced and innovative.
Recognition and Gratitude
During Volunteers’ Week, we want to express our thanks to each and every one of our volunteers. Your dedication doesn’t go unnoticed. Whether you’re helping with daily operations, supporting special events, or contributing your specialist skills, you are making a real difference in people’s lives.
To our amazing 90 volunteers: thank you for your time, your passion, and your unwavering support. Thank you for choosing to spend your precious free time with us. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us achieve it. The Alice Cross simply wouldn’t be the same without you.

Looking Forward
As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2025, we’re also looking ahead to the future. We’re committed to continuing to support our existing volunteers while also welcoming new faces to our team. If you’ve been inspired by reading about our volunteer community and would like to learn more about joining us, we’d love to hear from you.
Volunteering with The Alice Cross offers the chance to be part of something meaningful, to develop new skills, meet like-minded people, and make a tangible difference in your community. Most importantly, it offers the opportunity to be part of a team that truly values and appreciates your contribution.
