We have collaborated with the Teignmouth and Shaldon Museum on a new temporary display about the life of our founder, Alice Cross B.E.M. Our display shows the timeline and achievements of Alice Cross, and the legacy of her work today. Our current centre on Bitton Park Road opened in 1978, and was named in honour of Alice’s decades of public service to local people (The first centre opened in 1953). The exhibition contains pictures and texts from local archives, giving a wonderful insight in the work and life of Alice Cross. She was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1974 for her work. She left us in 1995 aged one hundred, after a long life in the service of others.
The museum display is on until the end of May. Members can get in for free, visitors pay £5 to get free admission to the whole museum for a year. They have a number of different exhibitions every year.
We are hosting a presentation about Alice’s life at the museum on Saturday 31st May at 11:00am, doors open at 10:20am for refreshments. Non-member entry is £3.00. Everyone is welcome. Please see our poster about the exhibition below, and of course feel free to share it!
